and in the news today 28/1/2010
It was a quiet day today, with most people off looking at the new IPad. I don’t blame them. I wonder what the reader looks like on it. Will ebooks grow with this new toy’s arrival on the market?
Nora Jemisin is overjoyed that people have been paying for her book. She also admits she has “no idea how Bookscan works. I may be a fantasy writer, but this magic is too arcane for me.” I don’t think anyone knows how Bookscan works, but I also don’t see why she’s surprised people want to read her work. I greatly enjoy her blog, even.
The IPad’s been getting some comments, too. Such as “iPAD makes me think of Latin verb conjugation lessons. I pad, you pad, he/she or it pads.” – Willie Meikle
Jeff Vandermeer once more brought to our attention the sad news of Kage Baker, and I know I find it a great loss to think another talented writer may not write another series. I find it amazing, though, that humour still survives these harrowing moments in our lives, as Kage responded, when asked if she would be contributing to the forthcoming Lambshead Cabinet of Curiousities, she said she “wasn’t up to it unless we wanted her as medical specimen.”
Kevin J Anderson showed complete contempt for his fans when he paused his editing of Hellhole some 23 pages before its end just so he could have lunch. How inconsiderate.
Kate Forsyth has been writing like crazy today. She managed a mammoth 3500 words today. I don’t think I even spoke that many!
Max Barry believes “3D glasses fit over regular ones. AND make you look TWICE as smart.” I’ll buy me a dozen.
I also watched a Korean film, “Thirst”. If you only watch one film this year, make sure it’s that one. It’s an amazing film. Surreal, hilarious, weird and just plain bizarre! I love Korean films. Shin Ha-Kyun looked absolutely different in this. I didn’t recognise him for the first part. Positively anorexic. I love this guy’s work. The film is amazing. Can I rant about it some more?
Rumours abound that Ged Maybury is working on a stageplay. As soon as I sniff out the news on that nugget, I’ll let you know!
